In addition to the proposals for additional beamlines, a number of major facility upgrade projects were identified during the ASDP process. These projects are typically too large in scope and cost to be funded through the operational upgrade budget but yet not of a scale to form a stand-alone project within the ASDP.

The accelerator development and major facility upgrade projects are aimed at providing the proposals contained within with a mechanism to be publicised, promoted and potentially funded within the ASDP process.
