Group Leader - External Relations

The Group Leader – External Relations is a key leadership position and will contribute to the ongoing development of the Australian Synchrotron by:

  • Developing and implementing the Australian Synchrotron communications strategy whilst effectively managing the Communications team.
  • Proactively pursue opportunities to promote the achievements and development of the Facility.
  • Develop and implement a media strategy and act as the first point of contact and liaison for enquiries from the media and the public.
  • Support the Head of External Relations in Government Relations activities and Stakeholder management.
  • Oversee the Facility website and External Relations intranet.
  • Oversee the planning and organisation of events for the Facility including Open Day seminars, conferences, promotional events, workshops, and others as required
  • Assist with and promote fundraising events, produce reports and prepare correspondence for the facility director when requested
  • Provide departmental management support to the Head of External Relations as required.

The Person
To be successful you will have:

  • Appropriate qualifications or significant experience in developing and implementing marketing, communications and media strategies in a scientific or research environment.
  • Previous experience in Government Relations and Stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into formats suitable for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing major events such as conferences, seminars and workshops within given timelines and budget.
  • Extensive experience in managing print, web and other forms of publishing.
  • Demonstrated ability and skills in VIP protocols and excellent interpersonal skills, significant networking skills and strong desire to maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Creative design and problem solving skills and excellent writing skills in a variety of formats and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team.
  • High level computer literacy, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, graphic design and web authoring tools.
