David Tokell holds first class Honours and Master's degrees in mechanical engineering and is trained in systems engineering and the management of technically challenging projects.

He has 20 years experience in the development of complex engineering systems such as scientific instrumentation and medical devices with companies such as Invetech, Vision Systems and PA Technology in the UK. This included working on detailed mechanical designs, systems engineering, project management, team leadership and line management roles.

David understands engineering issues from the technical perspective - and in terms of the needs of users and operators.

His future goals include the development of closer ties with other synchrotrons and collaboration with industry to build local capabilities.
