A number of developments are planned for introduction to the powder diffraction beamline. The significant additions are highlighted below.

Auto-aligning Sample Spinner

The auto-aligning sample spinner will use image analysis software to align capillaries, thereby removing the need for manual goniometer heads. Samples will be mounted on magnetic bases which sit on the automated goniometer head and are aligned using images captured on the close-range camera. This spinner is expected to bee used for routine data collection and will be suitable for use with the cryostream and hot air blowers, and the flow cell. 

Multi-Analyser Crystal (MAC) Detector

The multi-analyser crystal detector will allow the acquisition of high resolution diffraction data, with particular benefit to measurements requiring energy discrimination and/or high angular resolution.
