Samples (XAS)

PLEASE NOTE

Thorough sample preparation is a crucial pre-beamtime task. It has the potential to critically influence the experimental outcome / success. In summary, the small vertical beamsize coupled with a small, but noticeable, beam motion demands highly uniform samples as their homogeneity is directly related to obtained data quality. Additionally, measurements performed in the 12K cryostat introduces sample vibrations.

You are therefore urged to review the general instructions on sample preparation (pdf, 2.5 MB), the filter method (pdf, 0.7 MB) for preparing samples (developed and used with success by one of our expert users), and our poster on sample homogeneity (pdf, 1.2 MB).

In the documents referred to above we use XAFSMass for calculating ideal sample dimensions for transmission experiments. This program can be downloaded here (zip, 1.3 MB).
