Safety training and induction

Safety training

Following allocation of beamtime by the Proposal Allocation Committee, access to the Australian Synchrotron (AS) and provision of a radiation dosimeter badge will be granted only upon users successfully completing computer-based radiation and general safety induction assessments (referred to here as 'induction') under supervision at the AS.

Only those users named on the Experiment Authorisation form will be permitted to participate in the induction and ultimately gain access to the AS. The User Office must be provided with the final list of users for a particular allocation of beamtime no later than three business days prior to the commencement of that beamtime.

Prior to arriving at the AS users must make an appointment with the User Office for a time to complete the induction on-site. Presentations relevant to this induction can be accessed below. Users will be able to view these presentations in electronic or hard copy form during their induction, however users are strongly advised to view both the general OHSE presentation and the radiation safety presentation before arrival as the induction to be completed at the AS will be based on the material covered in these two online presentations.

Users will not be granted access to the AS until they have successfully completed the induction (i.e. both of the induction assessments).

Beamline Induction

If you have not previously used the specific beamline you are coming to use, then you must also undertake a beamline induction with the associated beamline scientist before access is authorised to these areas.
