You are invited to the Australian Synchrotron to preview results from XIA LLC’s “FalconX” digital pulse processor Powered By SITORO® Accelerated Analysis. This event is an example of the Australian Synchrotron engaging local SME's with Victorian Government support to develop world-leading technology. The SITORO® digital pulse processing technology was invented and is being commercialised in Melbourne.
Ultra High Rate Model-Based Digital Pulse Processor for Synchrotron Radiation Detection

SITORO® will be discussed with regard to synchrotron radiation detection, followed by a beamline demonstration. Paul will be joined by Peter Grudberg, President of San Francisco-based XIA LLC.
Southern Innovation’s patented SITORO® digital pulse processing technology implements advanced non-linear signal processing algorithms to deconvolve pulse pile-up in real-time. By deconvolving rather than discarding pile-up events, very little data is rejected, resulting in a dramatic increase in measurement efficiency. Key benefits of SITORO® digital pulse processing include:
► faster analysis - exceptional throughput at very high input count rates, less than 10% dead time even over 1 million counts per second
► accurate analysis - operate at high count rates without traditional resolution loss, FWHM of 200eV at 1 million counts per second is possible
► excellent pulse-pair resolution - sees events separated by less than 50 nanoseconds
SITORO® is implemented on a Spartan-6 FPGA and operates directly on the digitised data, using Maximum Likelihood Estimation techniques, and has been evaluated using a number of different radiation detector types.
XIA has worked closely with Southern Innovation to implement SITORO® into FalconX, their latest generation pulse processing product. Key benefits of FalconX include:
► support for a range of pulsed reset or resistive feedback preamplifiers
► high speed USB 2 interface supporting 40MB/s peak transfer
► a wide analogue bandwidth of 50 MHz supports rise times of < 10ns
► excellent timing resolution: events time stamped with resolution < 1ns
