XFM GeoPIXE Workshop: Quantitative element imaging and Maia detector data analysis using the GeoPIXE software
From: 9am, 6th December, 2011
To: 5pm, 7th December, 2011
Held prior to the AS User meeting at the same venue, The Sebel hotel, Albert Park.
This 'hands on' workshop is aimed at users of the XFM beamline who have data to analyze or are planning an experiment. It will cover quantitative element imaging and aspects of XANES imaging using GeoPIXE, building from simple detector systems, such as the Nanoprobe Vortex, through to complex arrays, especially the Maia detector at XFM.
There will be no charge for registered attendees and lunch and coffee breaks will be catered for.
Out of Melbourne and Interstate and workshop attendees will attract a support package of $500 for travel and accommodation targeted at students and diversity of institutions on a first come first served basis.
A more detailed program will be published on this webpage for the XFM GeoPIXE workshop.
How to prepare for the workshop
Users will need to install IDL (v8) on their laptop in order to use GeoPIXE at the workshop. To obtain IDL, users will need to register on the ITT web site. Once registered, they can download IDL and use it in Virtual Machine (VM) mode with GeoPIXE without charge. By special arrangement with ITT, after they have registered, users can also email ITT and request a temporary full license for use at this workshop. This will open up all IDL features, including the ability to run the new parallel processing features (multi-core support) for faster Maia data processing.
We recommend setting up and testing IDL well before the workshop.
Users who already have IDL installed on Windows should be up to at least IDL 7.1.1. If not (e.g. 7.0, 7.1), then they should upgrade to IDL 8.
Registrations have now closed.
