FREE Synchrotron tour

Light and Colour show - $4 per person (suitable for 13 years and under and their parents)

Diffraction / Refraction show - $4 per person (suitable for 13 years and over) –




Held once every two years, ANSTO’s Australian Synchrotron Open Day is an exciting opportunity to see one of the most important scientific facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.


This free event will attract more than 3,000 people and provide you with the chance to hear from some of the ANSTO researchers that use synchrotron light to deliver better outcomes for all Australians.  


There are a range of tours running across the day commencing each half hour. Each tour runs for 90 minutes and starts with a customised introductory presentation depending on your interests.


Afterwards, explore the Synchrotron site further with food outlets, roving entertainment, kids activities, science workshops, careers information and interviews being just part of the offering.


Choose one of the following tour options:

1.     Synchrotron Science for the Family tour – suitable for 8 years and above and for people without a background in science and engineering looking for a broad overview.

2.     In-depth Science tour – suitable for people with a science, technology, engineering  or mathematical (STEM)background.

3.     STEM careers tour – suitable for senior secondary, tertiary or post graduate students interested in a career in a STEM.

4.     Art meets Science tour – suitable if you want to know how synchrotron light can uncover the secrets of famous artworks

5.     Medical Beam Time tour – suitable if you want to know more about the Synchrotron’s important medical outcomes.
